Here’s what we now know about where the missing plane might be
Crew aboard the Ocean Shield, an Australian naval vessel, have detected noises underwater that might have been from the Malaysia Airlines jet that went missing last month. The Ocean Shield is towing a kind of submersible microphone provided by the U.S. Navy, which for a couple of hours on Sunday was receiving what could have been pings from an airplane’s black box. The crew are continuing to search the area to determine from where exactly the sounds were coming. They might then deploy a torpedo-shaped submarine robot, also on loan from the United States, that will dive three miles to the sea floor to look for debris.
