The shooting happened on bustling Chatsworth Road, Hackney, at around 1pm today.
One eyewitness told Mirror Online how terrified members of the public fled into chemist close to where the shooting happened.
The witness, who asked not to be named, said: “We were in the shop with a few other people when I suddenly heard this noise that I thought was firecrackers.
“There was a man running away outside the shop and then all of a sudden about three other people came running into the shop looking terrified.
“They told us there had been a shooting. I could not believe it as it did not sound like the gunshots you hear in the movies. I think there were about three shots fired.
“I then saw one guy with his hood up walking past the shop very quickly.”
The witness told Mirror Online how the shooting happened in a busy part of the road during peak hours on Saturday – with dozens of customers, staff and residents walking by.
He added: “After a while we plucked up the courage to go outside and I could see the victim had slammed into a railing outside as it had been knocked flat.”He must have gone into the butcher’s shop next door too as there was blood splattered across the floor.
“The victim had obviously run around the corner because when I went outside I saw him lying on the pavement in Glenarm Road being operated on by the ambulance people.
“He wasn’t moving at all and the paramedics had blood bags connected to him as they were pumping his chest. It was horrifying.”
Other shoppers ran into a cafe opposite and hide following the gunman opening fire.
Customers of a cafe opposite were forced to run inside and hide as the gunmen opened fire on their victim.
Around a dozen people were sitting outside Creperie du Monde when the horrific murder happened.
A member of staff who asked not to be named said: “We didn’t hear anything but all of a sudden about a dozen people came running in.
“They were terrified and told us that someone had just been shot. They were very badly shaken up.
“Another woman who was walking past when it happened came in our shop for refuge. She told me she saw it all happen.
“Apparently some men went into one of the shops opposite and opened fire on a man. She was terrified.”
Armed police swarmed the area shortly after the young man was gunned down but there was no sign of the killers.
The scene is in an area of Clapton which became known as the ‘Murder Mile’ due to the number of killings in the 90s and early 2000s.
