Robert Vaughn dead: Man From Uncle actor dies in America surrounded by his family
The actor, who also starred in the Magnificent Seven, Coronation Street and Hustle, is survived by wife Linda, son Cassidy and daughter Caitlin.
Actor Robert Vaughn, most famous as Napoleon Solo in Man From Uncle, has died today aged 83, according to US reports.
Vaughn, who also starred in the Magnificent Seven, Coronation Street and Hustle, is survived by wife Linda, son Cassidy and daughter Caitlin.
His manager Matthew Sullivan confirmed to Deadline this evening that that he had passed away following a short battle with acute leukemia.
“Mr. Vaughn passed away with him family around him,” his manager said.
During his impressive career, which spanned across seven decades, Vaugn modestly took on a number of less high-profile roles, randing from an uncredited worshipper in The Ten Commandments to an angry audience member on Late Night With Conan O’Brien.
However, he will most remembered for the small screen’s answer to James Bond, Napoleon Solo.
The series ran from from 1964-68 and saw Vaughn join forces with a number of stars including David McCallum and Leo G. Carroll.
Although the series was not a huge hit at the time, it inspire a short-lived spin-off series called The Girl From U.N.C.L.E which starred Stephanie Powers.
This of course then went on to influence the shaping of the Secret Agent Man craze in the 1960s.
Vaughn’s other credits include Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Hustle and Little Britain USA.
His last appearance on screen was in Gold Star, which was released just last month.
