In American criminal justice systems a youth detention center, also known as a juvenile detention center (JDC), juvenile hall or, more colloquially as juvie, is a secure prison or jail for people under the age of majority, often termed juvenile delinquents, to which they have been sentenced and committed for a period

Her Majesty’s Young Offender Institution (or HMYOI) is a type of prison in England and Wales, intended for offenders aged between 18 and 20, although some prisons (particularly Ashfield and Huntercombe) cater for younger offenders from ages 15 to 17, who are classed as juvenile offenders.
