The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted thunderstorm accompanied with hail and gusty winds at isolated places in the national capital.

Heavy rain and hailstorm lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday evening.

As many as 18 flights were diverted from Delhi airport between 6 pm and 7 pm, an airport official told PTI.

Adjoining areas of Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Meerut, Khatauli, Modinagar, Shamli, Baraut, Faridabad, Noida, Ballabhgarh, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Sambhal, Muradabad, Amroha and Narora also experienced light showers and hailstorm.

In the past 24 hours, the city witnessed about 1 mm of rain.

Delhi-NCR experienced light showers on Thursday morning disrupting traffic at a few places.

The national capital, on Wednesday, woke up to light rain followed by a sunny spell during the day. The maximum temperature was around 25.1 degrees Celsius whereas the minimum temperature was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius.
