Indian airline Jet Airways has suspended all international flights, the airline holds debt of more than $1bn and is looking for a financial lifeline.

The Indian government have ensured that steps were being taken after flights were cancelled.

On Thursday the airline grounded 10 aircraft as they had not paid fees to leasing firms and according to local media reports Jet Airways is only now operating 14 aircraft.

Jet Airways flies 600 domestic and 380 international routes, the company has over 100 planes in their fleet.

Suresh Prabhu, India’s Aviation Minister said on Twitter the ministry would “review issues related to Jet Airways” and “take necessary steps to minimise passenger inconvenience and ensure their safety.”

A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport said, “We are aware of this situation and our main priority is working with our passenger service teams to support those affected. We advise travellers to contact the airline for the latest information.”
