Police have confirmed remains found in a woodland in Hertfordshire could belong to a murdered student midwife. Joy Morgan, 20, was last seen in Ilford on boxing day last year attending a celebration at Israel United In Christ church and had attended the University of Hertfordshire.

She was reported missing to police on February 7.

Shofah El-Israel, from North London, who worshipped at the same church as the victim, was found guilty of her murder on August 5. He was jailed for a minimum of 17 years but never revealed the location of Ms Morgan’s body or how she died. A member of the public alerted police to the remains in Chadwell Road, Norton Green, in Stevenage, on Saturday morning. Officers and sniffer dogs were seen in woodland areas in Norton Heath eight months ago as part of a search for evidence.

A police spokesman said it was ‘too early to say’ if the remains belonged to Ms Morgan, but it ‘is a line of inquiry’. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for tomorrow, with the body expected to be identified by the weekend. Police have notified Ms Morgan’s family
