Actress Rose McGowan called the Trump administration a “terrorist regime” in a tweet Thursday, apologizing to Iran for the president’s airstrike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

“Dear #Iran, The USA has disrespected your country, your flag, your people,” Ms. McGowantweeted to her 893,000 followers. “52% of us humbly apologize. We want peace with your nation. We are being held hostage by a terrorist regime. We do not know how to escape. Please do not kill us. #Soleimani.”

The former “Charmed” star was responding to the news that Mr. Trump ordered an airstrike in Iraq that killed Soleimani, the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, at Baghdad International Airport. Soleimani was one of the most powerful figures in Iran’s regime and directly responsible for the recent wave of action against U.S. military personnel, including the attacks against the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, U.S. officials said Friday.

Ms. McGowan acknowledged that Soleimani did “evil things” but that the U.S. acted “illegally” in killing the Iranian general.

“Of course #Soleimani was an evil evil man who did evil evil things,” she wrote. “But that at this moment is not the [expletive] point. The United States is morally corrupt and acts illegally. It is only logical to appeal to Iran’s pride by apologizing. I’m taking one for the team. #TeamStayAlive.

“I do not side with Iran, but I most definitely do not side with the USA #TeamStayAlive,” she wrote, later adding, “I am a conscientious objector to the USA, it’s policies, lies, corruption, nationalism, racism, and deep misogyny. It is our right and duty as citizens to dissent.”

Ms. McGowan appeared to walk back the severity of her statements Friday, writing, “Ok, so I freaked out because we may have any impending war. Sometimes it’s okay to freak out on those in power. It’s our right. That is what so many Brave soldiers have fought for. That is democracy. I do not want any more American soldiers killed. That’s it.”

Ms. McGowan was one of the first women to publicly accuse movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, sparking the #MeToo movement.
