A French gendarme has died of coronavirus, the first frontline officer to lose their life to the illness (five French doctors have already died).   The tragic death has sparked a threat from police unions to stop enforcing France’s strict lockdown measures unless their members are better protected.   Alongside the police and medics on the frontline are the army, all of whom were praised by president Emmanuel Macron as he visited the first coronavirus military hospital in France.   But despite the amazing efforts of emergency workers (and if you want to show your appreciation, do join in the 8pm clapping) the death toll in France remains grim.   As the French government unveils more measures to help businesses and self employed people, we take a look at the situation on a ‘mortgage holiday’.
