A north London block of flats has gone up in flames this evening.

The inferno took hold of the building just before 10pm on Wednesday.

Around 70 firefighters from across north London were called to the scene on Acacia Road.

The fire broke out at a four storey building of maisonettes.

Videos circulating on social media of the raging inferno showed people stood out on the street covering their faces due to the smoke.

It isn’t yet known how it started.

Around 20 people were evacuated and three people were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service.

Eyewitnesses who live opposite described the moment they saw the flames as ‘very very scary’.
