More than 40 countries suspend UK flights in response to mutant Covid-19 strain

Here is your morning newsletter.More than 40 countries have now suspended flights from the UK following the discovery of a new, fast-spreading version of the Covid-19 virus. Oman has announced that it will close all its borders and prohibit travel in and out of the country to limit the spread of the new mutation. Meanwhile there are fears that rogue scientists could engineer a new virus that could cause as much chaos as the current pandemic.An American nuclear-powered submarine has been sent through the Strait of Hormuz amid mounting tension with Iran.The US Justice Department has unveiled new charges against the suspected bombmaker involved in the 1988 downing of a passenger plane over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.The fatal shooting by hooded men of a photographer as he prepared to take his children to school has caused outrage in Lebanon.The UK’s former envoy to Syria, who led a review into the Muslim Brotherhood, has stressed the role of courts in tackling such extremism.UAE parents have been urged to limit screen time as more children visit doctors with eye complaints.
