London Underground map even more likely to change as DLR extension to Thamesmead gets funding

A dream of the DLR extension that many South East London residents and workers will be wishing for is one step closer to coming true.

Transport for London (TfL) has this week received funding to carry out more work on the plans which will make this extension a reality finally.

A new station will be built at Beckton, in Newham, quite close to where the Excel Centre is.

The extension will then travel over the river by bridge, or under through a tunnel, to a new station at Thamesmead, which is south of the river Thames

Currently no decision has been made over whether to build a bridge or a tunnel.
