Lawmakers approve a single charge, incitement of insurrection, 232 to 197; 10 Republicans vote in favor; with Senate trial unlikely before Jan. 19, Trump expected to serve out term

In a historic vote, the US House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump over the violent siege at the US Capitol last week by a mob of his supporters.
After hours of intense debate, lawmakers passed a single charge, incitement of insurrection. It passed 232 to 197, with 222 Democrats and 10 Republicans supporting the motion. Five lawmakers — four Republicans and one Democratc, did not cast a vote.
