Offbeat Bar at Carlyon Bay announces sudden closure
The bar has proved hugely popular over the last five yearscornwalllive
A popular beach bar has announced its sudden and shock closure.
The Offbeat Bar has been welcoming thousands of beachgoers at Carlyon Bay near St Austell, for years, serving up refreshing beers and scrumptious burger and pizza offerings.
The bar is located right on the beach with punters able to watch the sun go down over Cornwall’s south coast.
Despite its popularity, the bar’s owners Matt and Amy have today confirmed that it will be closing down on May 20 due to a breakdown in relations with its promoter.
A statement on The Offbeat Bar Facebook page said: “It is with much sadness that I must inform you that The Offbeat Bar Carlyon Bay will be packing up early this year never to return.
“Our final day is to be May 20. It’s terribly sad but the reality is that it’s just not possible to see eye to eye with everyone all the time.

“It’s been our pleasure to serve our wonderful customers over the last five years and we’ve made some friends for life. I’m extremely proud of the world class team here.”
The statement went onto discuss potential future plans for the bar.
It continues: “Well the first option is to set up The Offbeat Bar at a different location. Maybe a holiday park or another pretty location in Cornwall. If you think you have the ideal location for us then get in touch.
“The second option is to sell the infrastructure (not in situ at the beach) and move onto another project. Amy and I have been pondering the move to a bricks and mortar venue for a while now. So if you’ve always dreamed of owning a mobile bar/restaurant with a ruddy great fire pit in the middle give me a bell.
“For now we’re going to concentrate on enjoying the final weeks here and continuing to provide the very best food and service we possibly can. Thanks to everyone who has supported us at the beach and of course thanks to the amazing teamsters.”
Despite being up for less than an hour, the post has already attracted scores of comments from people upset with the closure.
Tommy Charnock wrote: “This shouldn’t be happening having the offbeat bar is what brings Carlyon Bay beach to life.”
Clare Louise David added: “Gutted, we have only just found this place on Friday and thought it was amazing, staff were fab, and food was fantastic. Please let us all know where you’ll be heading next.”
