Heathrow and Gatwick: The 10 most popular green list destinations Brits want to visit this summer
These 10 countries are popular destinations for British travellersgetwestlondon
It was only a matter of weeks ago that the prospect of boarding a plane and escaping to a sunny paradise was a distant fantasy, but as lockdown restrictions continue to ease this is quickly becoming a reality.
While there are those who have set their sights on staycations and trips to the local beach, for others the prospect of getting on a plane and setting off to explore new pastures will be too strong to resist.
It is still illegal to leave the UK for non-essential travel but the UK government will allow foreign travel from May 17 at the earliest through the introduction of a new traffic light system of green, amber and red destinations.
A new study by Club Med has revealed which destinations on the travel green list are most popular with holidaymakers by analysing Google search data.
Club Med looked at Google search volumes for holidays for each green list country over the past year to determine which ones would be the most popular for travellers now restrictions are lifting.
Here are the top 10 destinations on the green list that holidaymakers are most desperate to go to:

Searches for holidays in Israel was up a staggering 809 per cent from the week prior to the green list announcement.https://data.reachplc.com/211265740895966?isIframeEmbed=1
Managing director UK & northern Europe at Club Med Estelle Giraudeau said: “Brits have been waiting patiently for international travel to officially be back on the cards since the most recent UK-wide lockdown. Many people haven’t had the chance to travel out of the country since the pandemic started, with local lockdowns in some cases meaning international travel has been impossible.
“With the most recent government announcement allowing the public to finally be able to travel to other countries legally for holidays, here at Club Med we’re excited to welcome holidaymakers back to our resorts from May 17.

“The countries newly approved to be included on the Green List are predominately in Europe, meaning holidaymakers will be able to take last-minute trips to these areas either for a holiday or even just a long weekend due to their proximity.
“We’re glad to see Portugal on the list, tipped as one of the most popular destinations for Brits this summer. Our data shows that the country is high up on everyone’s wishlist with 199,640 Google searches for holidays here in the past year.
