Denmark‘s triumph over adversity continues after they beat Czech Republic 2-1 to reach the Euro 2020 semi-finals.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side will play England in the semi-finals and were no doubt keeping a close eye on proceedings in Rome on Saturday night where the Three Lions stuck four goals past their opponents.

The Danes are, in a sense, both the team to beat and the team nobody really wants to beat. With 10 goals in their last three games, they have shown a formidable attacking threat through the likes of Kasper Dolberg, who now has three goals at this summer’s tournament.

The 23-year-old was on target again in the quarter-final thanks to an audacious cross from the outside of Joakim Maehle’s boot.

Thomas Delaney had put Denmark in front after just five minutes, heading in from a corner.

So one dark horse is out as Patrik Schick and co head home – but what will England have learned from watching their conquerors in the next round?

Denmark scouting report

Delaney may be a defensive midfielder on paper but he contributed to Denmark’s persistent threat down the right.https://cac6382c617a863a07779beb76f06b24.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html?n=0

Hjulmand’s men also served another reminder of their potency from set pieces, though it has to be said Czech Republic did not help themselves with their marking of Delaney and Jannik Vestergaard from the corner that led to the opening goal.

Vestergaard tricked Tomáš Kalas and Jan Boril to tee up a free header from his teammate. Harry Maguire and John Stones, you would imagine, would not be so naive.

Whoever lines up at the back for England will also have to contend with a roaming Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has progressed higher up the pitch this tournament.

At the other end, however, Kasper Schmeichel was beaten by Schick evading the offside trap tricking Denmark’s centre-backs as he drifted away from the six-yard box to slot in a low finish and set up a nervy second half.

Maehle almost put Denmark out of sight, wriggling clear and forcing a double-footed save from Tomas Vaclik.

England will know they cannot take them lightly. “We know what’s happened with Christian Eriksen, but they’ve got a very good team,” Ian Wright told ITV. “And if Eriksen had been there, they’d probably have been even better.”
